Reply to XCR600SP Reply with quote

Any body know what is involved in getting a cell phone unlocked so it can be
activated on your sasktel acount. My son broke his and now they want a
fortune for a new one when they are available on ebay for a fraction of the
price just the service provider is bell or telus and not sasktel.
Who can help me out? or does anybody have a good phone on sasktell that they
want to sell (no contract as I already have one)

Sure they don't, but if you can find someone to unlock it, they'd have no
reason to refuse to activate it on a current account.

I know they don't thus my reason for the question. They want you to buy a
new phone directly form them. Whatever happened to healthy competition. Why
are we forced to use the phones they sell what if we find a phone we want to
use and they don't sell it. Why are they didctating to us what phones we
buy?

Because they CAN!

Both Telus and Bell are like this as well. They WILL NOT allow you to
activate a phone on their network which you did not purchase from them
under any circumstances.

I know but they are canada wide and here in Saskatchewan we are limited to
Sasktel. I need sasktel as they cover more rural areas or I would switch to
rogers and get a phone off ebay for a fraction of the price.

Didn't the Government announce the other day that they're openning up the
cellular market to more competition and Bell and Telus almost immediately
started talking about building towers and other infrastructure?

Telus is available here now and I'm sure that Bell won't be far behind. I'm
also sure that SaskTel would gladly activate my Telus phone on their network
if it meant I was abandoning Telus to give them my business.

Yea, that's all we need, a new cell tower every 2 kms clogging up the view.

CDMA programing is done on the phone instead of on a SIM (GSM) phone.
IF you could find a sasktel employee stupid enough to put an unlocked
cdma phone on the sasktel network (read lose their job) your voice
might work, sort of, with poor reception, and your data services, text
messaging and most other features likely would not work, or work
extremely half assed. There is a reason why they don't activate third
party phones, and it's because the service would be one long support
call from hell.
